We have been thinking about car recordings for years. And here it is our solution: a Multi-microphone solution that covers every angle of the car. In the most useful situations.
We Split our recording session in three parts:
Car on stop: recording all the engine sounds in stop: Starts, Stops, REVs, IDLES….
Car on Ride: Recording multi-mic files of the car ride.
Car on stop FX and Foley: Recording all the car doors, horns, buttons, ambiences…
All of the Engine recordings are multi-MIC takes:

2 – EXHAUST
3 – TIRE / WHEEL
4 – MONO BOOM (MONO DOWNMIX OF STEREO PASSBY WHEN AVAILABLE OR MONO BOOM OPERATOR FOR STADY RECORDINGS)
5 – MONO INT
6-9 AMBIX INT AMBIENT
All of them recorded in perfect sync, and available in a single poly-wav file, perfect for Soundminer spotting!
We recorded around 65 beautiful tracks, 48Khz and 24 bits HD. As always, top quality recordings specially designed for film audio projects.
